David Clifford Stone (Bristol, 1936–)

David is first and foremost a musician – violinist, conductor, an inspiration for young musicians. But his worldwide career has embraced many additional roles: executive councillor to governments, cities and arts organisations; impresario; educationalist; event and festival director; a catalyst for innovative cultural development.

In spite of the apparent variety of his work there has been one overarching theme – the power of music to inspire, transform, unite and speak the truth – and one essential attribute – his power of communication.

This website sets out to record in factual detail the influences and opportunities that have shaped David’s life and work, the outcomes that these have produced in concrete terms and how, unknown to him, his early life gave him the necessary tools for future achievement – inherited musical skills, Clifton’s disciplines, Cambridge’s intellectual stimulation and wide horizons.
